The East India Company alleged that the revolts had been encouraged by Pesewa Baji Rao II. But the agrarian hardships and fear of the worst under the new regime were the main cause of Bhil revolt. The heat of the Bhil revolt spread over Satpura, Ssatmala and Ajanta areas. Chil Nayek, Hiriya and Shiuram were notable leaders of the revolt. Though the British tried to crush the revolt, the rebellion was temporarily contained. Its intensity could be felt even up to 1846.
