Parts of Speech

In English Grammar, there are eight parts of speech: NOUN, PRONOUN, VERB, ADJECTIVE, ADVERB, PREPOSITION, CONJUCTION AND INTERJECTION. The part of speech indicates how the word functions in meaning as well as grammatically within the sentence.

What is Noun?

A Noun is a word used for Person, Place, Things, Creature or Idea.

 Ex: Aman, Mohini, Ganga, Yamuna, Tiger, Deer, Desk, Class, Himalaya, India, Indian Ocean etc

Rules for a Noun

1.   

Noun is often used with an article A/An/The.

2.   1. A Proper Noun always starts with a capital letter but Common Noun does not. 

3.    2. A Noun can be singular or plural.

4.    3. A Noun can be a concrete or abstract noun. 

5.    4. Singular Noun can be made plural by adding 's

6.    5. Nouns can function in different roles within a sentence;

Ex:- a noun can be a subject, direct object, indirect object, subject complement, or object of a preposition.

Pronoun:

A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun. A pro noun is usually substituted for a specific noun, which is called its antecedent.

Ex:     I, Me, Mine, He, She

          : it, is, her, its, you, your, yours, we, us

          : our, them, they, their, what 

          : which, this, these, those 

 Amir is a scientist   

He lives in Kolkata

 Himalaya is a mountain in India

It is the largest mountain range in India

Adjectives:

An adjective is a word used to modify or describe a noun or a pronoun. It usually answers the question of which one, what kind, or how many. 

ExYoung, Cold, Hot, blind, fat, old

Aman is young man.,  He is fat boy.  

 Verb:

The verb in a sentence expresses action or being. 

 Ex: will, is, was, are, were has, have, had, am 

She is a girl ., Mohan was in Delhi, Akbar will play today.

Adverb:

An adverb describes or modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb, but never a noun. It usually answers the questions of when, where, how, why, under what conditions, or to what degree.

 Ex:  Fast, easy, slow, very

Arman reads daily Jamil runs fast She eats slowly.

Preposition: 

A preposition is a word placed before a noun or pronoun to form a phrase modifying another word in the sentence.

 Ex:  in, on, at, upon, over, with, to, into 

Akbar goes to school 

 He lives in kolkata 

Conjunction:

A conjunction joins words, phrases, or clauses, and indicates the correlation between elements joined.

Ex: Because, also, and,

 A conjunction joins words, phrases or clauses, and indicates the corelation between the elements joined. 

Interjection: 

   An interjection is a word used to express emotion. it is often followed by an exclamation by an exclamation point.

Ex: Oh!... Wow!... Oops!
